Mothers' Class

During the last community outreach, a team of dedicated medical students organized a comprehensive mother's class for pregnant women in Timalang, Ipil in March 2024. The team conducted pre-test and post-test assessments of the participants to evaluate their knowledge and understanding of the topic. The team also provided health education on the importance of facility delivery, emphasizing the benefits of giving birth in a healthcare facility with trained healthcare professionals. They also discussed the possible consequences of home delivery, including the risks posed by untrained attendants and the lack of proper medical equipment and facilities. The session was interactive and the participants received ample opportunity to ask questions and clarify their doubts. The medical students also distributed informative materials such as pamphlets to the participants, which they could refer to at any time. Overall, the session was a success and received positive feedback from the participants.

Turnover of logbooks

At the recent event, the medical students of the Ateneo de Zamboanga School of Medicine presented Mr. Arthur T. Neri with three logbooks that will be instrumental in ensuring the success of a project. The first logbook will be used to monitor cases of home birth delivery in Timalang. This is a crucial aspect of the project as it will help keep track of the health of mothers and newborns. The second logbook is a halfway house logbook that will track pregnant women who are due to give birth a week before their estimated due date. It will provide temporary shelter for those who have to travel long distances to BEMONC, which is a medical facility that provides comprehensive emergency obstetric and newborn care. The halfway house logbook will help ensure that all pregnant women in the area receive the medical attention they need, regardless of where they live. Finally, the third logbook is a policy assessment tool that will assess the effectiveness of the policies put in place to ensure the success of the project. This logbook will be used to evaluate the policies and procedures used in the project and identify areas that need improvement. The logbooks were designed with great care to assist in monitoring the progress of the project and will be an invaluable tool in ensuring its success.

Giving incentives and certificates to the BHWs

On the 14th of March in the year 2024, a heart-warming and joyous ceremony was held to recognize and honor the efforts of the selfless and dedicated barangay health workers. These health workers have been working tirelessly to maintain zero home-based deliveries in their respective puroks, and their hard work finally paid off as they were awarded and recognized for their efforts.

The incentives and certificates that were presented to them served as a testament to their unwavering commitment towards keeping their communities safe and healthy. The health workers had to overcome numerous challenges in their line of work, especially in encouraging pregnant mothers to give birth in a facility rather than opting for a home-based delivery. Despite these challenges, the health workers never lost their focus and continued to work diligently to ensure the safety and well-being of the community.

The ceremony was marked by speeches of gratitude and appreciation, as well as heartfelt messages of encouragement. The health workers were inspired to continue their excellent work and were reminded of the importance of their noble profession. The event ended with a sense of fulfillment and joy, as the health workers left with a renewed sense of purpose and pride in their work. It was indeed a momentous occasion that acknowledged the hard work and dedication of these healthcare heroes who have been working silently behind the scenes to keep the community safe and healthy.

Home visits to the home birth delivery cases as of year 2023

In March 2024, a group of medical students from the Ateneo de Zamboanga School of Medicine embarked on a mission to conduct home visits. The aim of the visits was to assess mothers who had given birth at home within the last 6 months. During the visits, the medical students were able to uncover two additional cases of home birth delivery that had not been previously reported. The students conducted further interviews with the mothers, which provided valuable insight into their decision to have their babies delivered at home.

The mothers shared compelling reasons why they had a home birth delivery. Some of the reasons included; early delivery than the EDC, does not feel any labored pain. The information gathered from the interviews helped the medical students to understand the challenges faced by mothers who experiencedhome birth delivery and the need to provide better support and resources for such mothers.

Overall, the efforts of the medical students were commendable, as they were able to identify cases that had not been previously reported and provide valuable insights into the decision-making process of mothers who opt for home birth delivery.

The medical students presented their comprehensive and evidence-based CHPs, which were designed to address the health needs of the barangay. Conducted pre and post test to the BHWs of brgy timalang regarding home birth delivery

In order to ensure the safety and wellbeing of mothers and their newborns, we conducted a pre-test and post-test among the Barangay Health Workers (BHWs) of Timalang regarding Home birth delivery. The aim was to assess their knowledge and understanding of the policies related to home birth delivery and the potential complications that may arise during childbirth.

During the test, we evaluated their ability to recall information about the risks of home birth delivery and the importance of safe delivery practices. This was to ensure that they can provide accurate and healthy education to pregnant women and discourage them from giving birth at home.

Through this pre-test and post-test, we aimed to equip the BHWs with the knowledge and skills necessary to educate pregnant women about the high risk of home birth delivery. The goal was to prevent any future cases of home birth delivery and ensure that mothers and their newborns receive proper medical care during childbirth.

Overall, this effort was aimed at promoting safe delivery practices and ensuring that every mother and newborn in Barangay Timalang receives the best possible care during childbirth.
