Medical students conducted a focused group discussion and 1 on 1 interview of all new teenage pregnant in the Barangay. We get to talk about sociocultural beliefs of the community with regards to starting a family in an early age. With this we were able to know the main causes of teenage pregnancy in the Barangay and create a game plan on how to address it. It was a productive day.
The group also conducted health teaching on Family Planning spearheaded by Clyde Lazala and Fatnohalda Namla. The bulk of the discussion revolves around the methods of family planning and as well as the importance of having a family planning. We also helped clarify and answer all their questions about side effects and myths in using family planning. We’re happy because we were able to encouraged some of them to enroll to family planning. Hopefully they will commit to it. With the new Barangay Captain and Barangay Officials, we established rapport and pitched again our Community Health Plans to the new administration. They were supportive about it and excited to be working together for the people of Timalang. We eat banana cues, talked and laughed. It was a fun day.
