YES to Safe Motherhood

On February 23, 2023, the medical students of Ateneo de Zamboanga School of Medicine conducted a large group discussion among the 17 pregnant residents who were at Timalang’s Barangay Health Station for their regular prenatal check-up. The following were discussed, (1) benefits of facility-based delivery; (2) complications of home-based delivery; (3) differentiation between true and false labor; and (4) penalties to those involved in home-delivery. Along with the health teaching conducted, the medical students also created a new pregnancy tracking board placed on Timalang’s Barangay Health Station for each health worker to be reminded of those who are almost at the end of their trimester. This system will also aid health workers in postpartum tracking of the residents.
