From "Tumaling" to "Timalang"..
Timalang comes from its mother barangay LUMBIA, whose name came from the Muslim Kalibugan term “launggong” which means river. When Barangay Timalang was created as a barangay, it was first named “Tumaling” which was derived from rattan products that were abundantly growing in the area, but before this name was proclaimed as its official name – a Subanen tribe man named “Matias” had died which led to them naming the place after his grave, “Lubong Matias”, which inhabitants found unpleasant to hear, and when Ipil was created as a Municipality, these two (2) barangay names were not accepted as its official name, then again changing its name to “Timalmang” and finally into “Timalang”. It was then created as a barangay on January 03, 1970, with its official name as Barangay Timalang.
Who came first?
The first migrants to this area were the Cebuanos who intermarried with the Kalibogans, known as the original inhabitants of this place, including the Subanen Tribes. The Tubal and Ferolino family were the first settlers. These people came from Cebu and Negros. They reached this place to own lands for living.
