Improving sanitation remains a key priority in Barangay Timalang’s journey toward achieving Zero Open Defecation (ZOD) status. During our recent community immersion, we supported this initiative through a combination of house-to-house validation visits, community education sessions, and coordination with local authorities.

Our group conducted household visits to assess toilet facilities, promote hygiene practices, and identify families still lacking access to proper sanitation. Special attention was given to households with shared toilets, where we emphasized the importance of cleanliness, responsibility, and accessibility for all users. These engagements allowed us to gather real-time feedback and encourage community-driven solutions.

In addition, we facilitated sanitation lectures with project KKK beneficiaries, discussing the health risks of open defecation, the value of clean surroundings, and practical steps families can take to improve hygiene. Participants responded with enthusiasm, showing a clear interest in adopting safer practices for the benefit of their families and neighbors.

To formalize the barangay’s commitment, we also assisted the local council in preparing and submitting an intent letter to the Municipal Sanitary Inspector as part of the official application for ZOD certification. This important step reflects the barangay’s readiness to be formally recognized for its progress in achieving sustainable sanitation.

Through consistent monitoring, education, and community involvement, Barangay Timalang is steadily paving the way toward a ZOD-certified future, where dignity, health, and environmental responsibility go hand in hand.
